Getting a clean read

  • Lay it flat, in good light, with the totals in the frame.
  • Long receipt? Two photos are fine. Do the totals half first.
  • Bills as PDF from your supplier app read best of all.

What happens to your photo

  • It is read once. That is all it is used for.
  • Your card numbers, sort codes, account numbers and NI numbers are stripped before anything is saved.
  • The photo itself is deleted within 15 minutes. Only the plain-English summary stays, for you.

If it is a letter about debt

  • Every advert and partner offer switches off straight away.
  • You get a calm summary, your rights, and letters ready to copy.
  • One tap calls StepChange, National Debtline or Citizens Advice. All free.

Questions about scanning

What can I scan?

Supermarket and shop receipts, fuel receipts, garage, MOT, tyre, boiler and plumbing invoices, broadband, mobile, energy, water and insurance bills, and any letter about money you owe: council tax reminders, court claims, default notices, bailiff letters. Photo or PDF.

Do I need an account?

No. You can scan straight from this page and see the answer. Joining with your email adds a running ledger of what you save, contract warnings before a price rises, and prices set to your postcode.

What happens to the photo?

It is read once. Card numbers, sort codes, account numbers and National Insurance numbers are stripped out before anything is saved. The photo itself is deleted within 15 minutes, automatically. Only the plain-English summary stays, and only you can see it.

How accurate is it?

Very good on printed receipts and bills, and it tells you how confident it is. If the totals are cut off or the shot is too dark it asks you to retake rather than guessing. Always check the pole sign, the shelf or the letter itself before you act on a number.

Will it work on a long till receipt?

Yes. Two photos are fine. Scan the half with the totals first, then the rest. Bills downloaded as PDFs from your supplier app read best of all.

Is it really free?

Yes, and it stays that way. Local businesses pay a flat fee to advertise; that is what keeps it free for you. You never pay, you are never sold to, and nobody gets commission for switching you.

Know someone this would help?

Send it over. It is free, there is nothing to sign up to, and nobody gets sold to.
